LAKEVIEW, Ore. - A closed rail line in Southern Oregon and Northern California is expected to reopen.
Lake County commissioners have signed an agreement with Lake Railway, a division of Frontier Rail.
The commissioners recently terminated a lease agreement with the Modoc Northern Railroad, which has been accused of poor communication and inconsistent service.
City leaders says the 55-mile line is a key to keeping jobs in Lakeview. The railroad takes perlite ore and other products from Lakeview to Alturas and by Union Pacific-owned track from Alturas to Klamath Falls.
