MEDFORD, Ore.-- Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms caused problems throughout Southern Oregon Friday night.
40,000 customers saw a 17-minute outage earlier Friday, mostly in the North Medford and Central Point area due to transmission problem caused by lightning. About 30 homes near Gold Hill on Blackwell Road also lost power. Pacific Power says its crews are working throughout the night to restore power.
A section of downtown Central Point was shut down for a portion of the evening due to flooding on streets and sidewalks.
The heavy rainfall also caused problems in areas of Talent and Phoenix. The corner of Pioneer and Clover in Phoenix flooded.
A flash flood warning for the region expired Friday night, but thunderstorms are likely to develop during the late afternoon hours this weekend.
An area of low pressure continues to draw moisture in from the Pacific but the current pattern is shifting and the weather Sunday should be better than Saturday.
The atmosphere will stabilize next week, leading to partly sunny conditions and warmer temperatures. Daytime highs will reach the 80s.
