MEDFORD, Ore. - While overall theft in the Medford area is down, police say they've seen a 15-percent spike in shoplifting in the last year.

Local stores say they are doing everything possible to protect themselves. Food 4 Less says the store has an advanced camera system, with trained officers monitoring those cameras 24-hours-a-day.

"We got them on all the check stands... they cover the parking lot, the aisles, back rooms. we're well, well, camera'd," says Food 4 Less Manager Terry Allphin.

Blackbird says it loses 5-percent of it's sales to shoplifters every year. It has nine cameras throughout the store and recently bought the security system from Joe's when it went out of business. That system will add an additional 12 cameras to the store.
