CENTRAL POINT, Ore. - Beginning this year, the use of fireworks will be allowed within the Medford city limits.

Medford's municipal code changed in May. The Medford Fire Department says the change will help with enforcement of illegal fireworks in the area. However, fireworks are not for sale within Medford city limits.

Meanwhile, firework stands say the price of fireworks is skyrocketing this year. Discount Fireworks Superstore Tent Manager Eddie Sims says he's paying 20-percent more this year compared to last. He says that's one of the largest price increases he's ever seen. Stand owners say the sluggish economy will play a role in how business goes this year.

On Tuesday and Wednesday fire departments in the region are inspecting fireworks stands. They are keeping an eye out for illegal fireworks. Officials say there are fewer fireworks stands in the area compared to last year.

Fireworks will be on sale through July 6th.
