NEAR UNION CREEK, Ore. - Fire crews are still battling six lightning caused fires in the Rogue-Siskiyou National Forest, down from 45 fire starts from the weekend.
Two of the six fires were new Wednesday. The largest is the Golden Stairs Fire northwest of Union Creek at about 30 acres
Officials say the probability of sleeper fires popping up in the future is high. Daily aerial reconnaissance and fire lookouts will continue to look for new smokes.
Meanwhile, more lightning hit the Shasta-Trinity National Forest and fires continue to burn there and in other forests. No evacuation orders are in place.
Crews battling the fires in Lassen National Forest have limited access to the flames because of the steep terrain.
So far the fire has burned over seven square miles. It was 15 percent contained at last report.
Two fires that were ignited by recent lightning storms are currently being managed by firefighters on the Klamath National Forest.
