CORVALLIS, Ore. -- A homeless man shot by an Oregon State University fraternity member three years ago is asking for more than $380,000 in a civil trial that began in Corvallis this week.

Dennis Sanderson was shot in the thigh with a .22-caliber rifle while collecting returnable cans and bottles behind the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity house.

Fraternity member Josh Grimes was sentenced to five months in jail after pleading guilty in March 2007 to assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

Sanderson's lawsuit was filed against Grimes and the fraternity.

The 41-year-old Sanderson is seeking payment for medical expenses and pain and suffering, as well as punitive damages.
