JACKSONVILLE, Ore. -- Jacksonville is looking to make changes to its citywide noise ordinance.

The Jacksonville Planning Commission is recommending changes be made to noise controls related to barking dogs and other disturbances. The commission also recommends adding decimal level limits primarily for the downtown area.

It's an old boiler plate ordinance, probably from the 70s that just talks about how you shouldn't make any noise that bothers your neighbors," Jacksonville City Administrator Paul Wyntergreen said.

The commission is also recommending conditional use permits, such as what the Britt Festival has, that would be approved on a case-by-case basis, separate from the citywide ordinance.

Officials say the council is in favor of changing the ordinance and will vote on a new version in a later meeting.
