NEAR GALICE, Ore. - A notorious stretch of road in Southern Oregon has proven hazardous yet again.

A couple trying to make it over Bear Camp Road between Galice and Gold Beach became trapped in snow last Thursday before rescuers got them out. It was the same area that James Kim died in 2006 when his family's car became trapped in heavy snow.

The road provides a direct route to Gold Beach. However, during the winter months, heavy snow makes it almost impossible to navigate. At least 30 people have gotten lost on the route in the past 15 years.

The Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service have signs in place that warn people of the danger of trying to drive through the stretch.

The couple say their GPS device told them to take the road to get to Interstate-5. Popular online map services have since removed the Bear Camp route when giving directions.

BLM says the snow is effectively closing the road, and advises drivers to pay attention to multiple warning signs that are posted near the road's entrance.
