PHOENIX, Ore. - A group of Phoenix High School students spread holiday cheer by giving dozens of people a hot meal Thursday.
Several months ago, High School Senior Jack Shaw decided to put on a thanksgiving dinner for his senior project. It took him more than 100 hours of work to make it happen. He also had help from his dad, a retired chef in the Rogue Valley, and a number of other students. They prepared enough food to feed 500 people. There was everything from turkey and ham to pumpkin pie and whipped cream.
"I think it's a real blessing to know that you can faithfully go forward as an older person and see the same kind of creativity that exists with young people," Medford Resident Sharon Lewis said.
Cafe Dejeuner off of main street in Medford also gave out a traditional Thanksgiving meal for free. Representatives say they prepared enough food to feed 240 people.
This is the first time the cafe has put on a Thanksgiving feast.
