ASHLAND, Ore. - Most doctors prescribe psychostimulants, like Adderall and Ritalin to treat ADHD and other attention deficit disorders.
Many college students are also using the pills to get through overnight cram sessions for finals. Southern Oregon University students say it isn't difficult to find Adderall on campus, and SOU isn't alone. Prescription stimulant misuse has grown exponentially in the past few years, according to surveys taken on college campuses.
"I think the word out on the street is it does help people focus and it is one of those medications that are used in the wrong way," said Dr. Laura Robin D.O., SOU Student Health Center Medical Director.
The SOU Student Medical Center says students must undergo a neurological assessment before receiving Adderall.
