KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - Klamath County authorities investigating three reported attempted teen abductions in the span of one week now say one of those reports is false.

Klamath County Sheriff Tim Evinger says that based on interviews Thursday night, a 15-year old made up her story. She originally told police she was approached in the Falcon Heights area around 7 p.m. Wednesday night. The Mazama High School student was arrested, cited and released for initiating a false report.

"The young lady at Falcon Heights has admitted to police that she sort of copycatted her story. She made up her story because of some issue that was going on," Klamath County District Attorney Ed Caleb said.

Investigators say the false report does not affect two other reported attempted abductions. Investigators are taking those reports seriously.

The first alleged abduction attempt occurred in the 400 block of Downtown Klamath Falls on the morning of Wednesday, January 27th.

The second occurred at Hope Street and Shasta Way last Thursday, January 28th. Police say two occupants in the vehicle demanded the teen get in.

The Klamath County Sheriff's Office is unsure if the two cases are related.

The only suspect description investigators have is from the incident on Shasta Way. The victim says the two men were possibly in an 80s model faded dark gray sedan. The driver is described as a male with a light tan complexion, 55 to 60-years-old.

Caleb says they have ruled out a number of sex offenders as possible suspects and do not have any other leads.

The Klamath County Major Crime Team was activated Thursday after the third, now false, incident was reported. The team brings together prosecutors, state and city investigators and the district attorney. Caleb says the team will remain enacted through the weekend. On Monday, Caleb, Evinger, and Klamath Falls Chief of Police Jim Hunter will determine if it should continue.
