BEND, Ore. - A homeless camp in Bend was removed Wednesday under the blade of a bulldozer.
Tents, tarps, and food containers were all hauled away. It's one of two camps that were cleared in the area by Oregon Department of Transportation workers after posting notices more than 10 days ago.
Shelters in Bend say they are at capacity, which could be why more than a dozen similar camps have popped up in the area recently.
"I think that some of them are necessary. A lot of the camps are kept very clean and organized; dry camps. It's just the ones like that, the ones that were cleaned up today, that give other people who're camping a bad name," Men's Shelter Director Lynda Johnson said.
ODOT says it plans on removing more camps from its property in the coming months.
