APPLEGATE, Ore. -- One of Southern Oregon's oldest schools is receiving funding that could help put it back in use again.
The nearly 100-year-old Red Brick School House in Applegate is eligible for almost $900,000 in seismic upgrade funding. The building was closed to students 10-years-ago for fear an earthquake could make it collapse.
"The building will be upgraded structurally so that it's modern with current codes. But the aesthetic character of the building will look the same. The interior will most likely see some improvement and upgrades that are funded directly by the school," District Consultant Aaron Ausland said.
Planning and design will begin soon, with construction likely to begin by late summer. The school should be ready for occupancy again by the fall of 2011.
