GRANTS PASS, Ore. - The Three Rivers School District announced Monday it could cut both school days and teacher salaries and benefits to make up a $2 million budget shortfall.

This comes in addition to a $2 million budget deficit in in June that forced the district to eliminate eight school days and 11 teacher and staff positions.

The moves come in response to a report last week that Oregon's expected revenues are down $377 million.

"It's really difficult with scheduling classes and assigning kids to classes to cut personnel. So you end up cutting days at the last minute," Three Rivers School District Superintendent Dan Huber-Kantola said.

Kantola says the district may cut a total of 15 days next year. He says the district is also considering freezing insurance costs and cost-of-living adjustments for teachers and staff.

Negotiations between the district and teachers' union will begin after school starts September 7th.
