MEDFORD, Ore. - The city of Medford is seeing an increase in domestic abuse cases.
In 2010, Medford Police investigated 295 domestic violence cases, up from 229 in 2009, a 30 percent increase.
Statewide, more than 50 people died as a result of domestic violence last year.
Medford Police say that not only are the number of cases rising, but so are the number of repeat offenders.
The Women's Support Crisis Team says budget cuts to state programs has really hurt area shelters and related programs. It says that when the shelters are full, people feel like they don't have a place to turn to.
If you or someone you know is in an abusive relationship you can call the Women's Crisis Support Team hotline 24/7 at 1-800-750-9278.
