ASHLAND, Ore. -- There were no plastic bags in sight Wednesday at one local grocery store. It's all part of a green movement.
Check stands in the Ashland Albertsons were without plastic bags today. Albertsons is hoping to send out a message to go-green, which could possibly catch on to other stores.
Customers were given the option of paper bags today and also given free reusable bags on request. Managers say the bag-less change was easier due to their location.
"It has been an easy shift because of the community we are in its what we needed to do to be a part of the community and to represent Albertsons in Ashland," said Store Director Paige Vaughn
Three local elementary schools were honored by the store today for their efforts in collecting 40,000 plastic bags to encourage the transition.
