Butte Falls in running to win new fire truck

BUTTE FALLS, Ore. - The Butte Falls Volunteer Fire Department is a finalist to win a new fire truck.

The department is one of seven finalists in a national 'Tell Us Your Story' contest in which departments from across the country submit an essay and then voters decide.

The department currently has two engines, and says it's in dire need of a new truck.

"Running these older engines up and down the highway like we're doing is kinda risky in the sense that they're old engines. They have old parts on them. We're constantly working on them too. And it's very costly for us," says Butte Falls Fire Chief Jeff Gorman.

Gorman says he initially thought winning was a long shot, but, now he is hoping for the $170,000 truck.

The department responds to more than 80 calls-a-year.

Regrets

Jeff Gorman needs to tell the truth on who started the Fire Department in 1964. It was RED CAPELLO. I sure didn't see his name mentioned in this. After RED'S passing, RUTH CAPELLO was Chief for 10 years, and after she retired, JOHN CAPELLO was chief.
You know all this JEFF GORMAN!!! Tell the truth!

Regretfully yours,
Jeanette (Shag Capello) Frison
