GRANTS PASS, Ore. - A two-horse accident at the Grants Pass Downs Sunday has left two jockeys on the sidelines and one horse euthanized.

Officials say they did everything they could to save the horse, but it had to be put down because of a broken ankle. The two jockeys are recovering but are out for the season because of their injuries.

Veteran Jockey Frank Williams, who had won a race earlier that day, hit some uneven ground on the final turn of the 12th race.

"You could hear the ankle kinda pop, and it was a very large heavy horse. And sometimes you can get 'em stopped and pulled up, but in this instance it was just too much for one to try to control," says Frank Williams.

Officials say the other horse involved in the incident will be OK, but Jockey 'Terrance Birdrattler' is out indefinitely with a broken wrist. Williams is recovering from a broken collarbone and at least two cracked ribs.
