MEDFORD, Ore. - The closing of Joe's Sports and Outdoors in Medford following the company's bankruptcy filing has had quite an impact on local businesses.

Black Bird Shopping Center in Medford says its sales are up more than 30-percent this month. It says it even hired seven new employees because of the increased business. Black Bird says people are mostly stopping in for camping and water sport equipment.

It's a mixed bag, however, for businesses in Poplar Square, where Joe's was located. Businesses on the left side of the square, where Joe's was located, say business is down.

On the other side, businesses like Kid To Kid say business has not taken a hit. They say anchor stores like Ross and JoAnn Fabrics bring in shoppers.
