MEDFORD, Ore. -- Medford police are considering charges against the stepfather of a 4-year-old boy who accidentally shot himself in the foot.

Lt. Tim Doney says that investigators are still piecing together what happened before Saturday's incident, but a variety of criminal charges could come into play.

Police say the boy had been napping on his parents' bed, and a loaded gun was nearby.

The boy was treated at Rogue Valley Medical Center and released.
