MEDFORD, Ore. - Police are warning the public about a convicted kidnapper who is being released from prison Friday.

69-year-old Gary Douglas Caughey is being released from the Oregon State Penitentiary after serving 23 years for first-degree kidnapping. Caughey abducted a 17-year-old girl at knife point on Foothill Boulevard in Josephine County on July 19, 1986. That was the very first day he was put on parole after serving time for other crimes.

He went to prison in 1973 for second-degree kidnapping and first degree rape charges. He also served an eight-year prison sentence for kidnapping two children in Nebraska.

Even though the 1986 kidnapping occurred in Josephine County, Caughey's official residence was in Curry County at the time. That is why he must stay in Curry County once he's released.

This is one of his parole conditions, along with no alcohol and no car. He will be supervised for at least one year.
