Horse Seizure

By Ron Brown

APPLEGATE VALLEY, Ore. -- An Applegate Valley man could be in trouble with the law after Jackson County Sheriff's Deputies seized two sick horses from his pasture Tuesday morning.

Following complaints from Applegate Valley residents, deputies arrived at the home of Jim Armstrong on Little Applegate Road, with warrants to seize two horses that were suffering apparent malnutrition and neglect. Hooves that had not been trimmed for years were so long the horses could barely walk.

The horses are being taken to Eden Farm in Ashland where they will be seen by a veterinarian and cared for. An Eden farm spokeswoman says this is the fifth similar case they've seen just this week.
