ASHLAND, Ore. -- Southern Oregon University is reminding students to be careful around campus late at night, following an incident last week.

Early Friday morning, a female student was walking from one residence hall to another when she says a man started to follow and scare her. She got away without getting a good look at the suspect.

In the 2007-08 school year, police investigated nine reports of prowlers near student housing between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m.

SOU Campus Public Safety works closely with Ashland Police. They patrol campus 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week. Public safety officials says it's important to be aware of your surroundings. They recommend travelling in groups and in well lit areas late at night. They say dormitory residents shouldn't let anyone in who doesn't live in a residence hall, and should try to keep the doors locked at all times.
