KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. -- A Klamath Falls soldier who was injured in Afghanistan returned home last week.

Command Sergeant Major Michael Campbell was stationed in Afghanistan for five months. He was injured in August after an improvised explosive device exploded in a ditch where he was positioned fighting the Taliban. He spent three months at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. for multiple lacerations to his left arm and eye.

Campbell has served in the Oregon Army National Guard since 1984. He's served three tours of duty, but Afghanistan was his first combat tour.

Friends, family and co-workers with ODOT honored him Wednesday with a barbeque. ODOT employees say the crew is like a family, and they are happy to have him back home. Due to his injuries he will not be able to work for another year.
